St. Andrew’s StAR Project

You may start to see this logo more and more as fundraising events for this important project are launched. Like the Great Staughton barbeque which was on Father’s Day at Place House. So what is it? And why do we need it?

STAR stands for ST Andrew’s Renovation Project. The aim is to upgrade the rear (West) part of the church by removing pews to make a large space for Church and village to use whilst adding additional toilet and kitchen facilities. The heating, audio and visual aids will be upgraded too.

A group has been formed from church and villages to oversee the project led by Anthony Withers (chairman).

St Andrews Church is a Grade I Listed Building located in the Parish of Great Staughton; a small rural village in the district of Huntingdonshire, with a population of approximately 850 people.

We intend to reconfigure the space at the base of the west Tower, where the existing toilet and kitchen facilities are located, by removing the kitchen and installing new toilets, one of which will be disability compliant.

And install a kitchen area at the west end of the North Aisle.

The font will be moved from the Nave, back to its original location in the South Aisle.

Pews that are damaged/worm-eaten will be removed, with salvageable timber reused where possible. Pews that are in serviceable condition will be retained and relocated within the church to open the space at the west end of the Nave.

The electrics in the building will be upgraded and we will upgrade the heating system to make this more efficient.

After completion we will be able to offer an alternative community space, increase the capacity of the church to provide social interaction and support, not least for lonely and isolated members of our community.

Your very welcome to come and see our lovely church and please contribute to this important community led project by donating using the QR code. Thank you.
