Benefice

We are a Benefice of 3 Churches serving 4 villages in Cambridgeshire (Hail Weston, Great Staughton and West Perry) and Bedfordshire (Little Staughton). We are currently in Vacancy following the retirement of the Reverend Canon Nicki Bland. We are supported by two Licensed Lay Ministers, Glenn and Maggie Coiley. Collectively, we aim to reach out to the people of the Parishes and to provide support to all ages both Church goers and others. We are an inclusive Church where everybody is welcomed and feels part of the family of the Benefice.

St. Andrew’s Church
We hold an 8.00 am BCP Communion service (currently suspended during the Vacancy) every first Sunday of the month at St Andrew’s Church, Great Staughton, followed by an All Age Worship service at 10.30 am. Every other Sunday there is a Parish Communion at 10.30am.

St. Nicolas’ Church
At St Nicolas Church, Hail Weston, there is a 9.00 am Communion Service every second and fourth Sunday. On the third Sunday at 3.00 pm, a young person’s Creative Communion. This is to introduce young people to the idea of the Communion Service and has been a way of bringing them towards Confirmation. There is a Morning Prayer at 10.00am followed by coffee in the Church on the 1st Wednesday of each month

All Saints Church
At All Saints Church, Little Staughton, there is a Parish Communion on the first and third Sundays of each month at 9.00am.

Fifth Sunday in a month
When there is a fifth Sunday in the month the Parish Communion service rotates around the benefice. Please see notice board on the home page for details of which church.

Newsletter
We have a regular newsletter which updates you with changes in services, please use the contact form on the Contact page if you would like to be included on the list.

Morning and Evening Prayer
During the week, every day except Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, we have Morning, at 8.30 and Evening Prayer, at 5.30, on Zoom.

Family Play Group
We hold Children’s Activities weekly, Family Fun, 9.00 am to 10.30 am in St Andrew’s Church.

Summer Camp
We hold an annual Summer Day Camp over 3 days in conjunction with Grafham Water Centre. This is for school age children from, or with a connection to, the Benefice. This usually takes place Tuesday – Thursday of the first week of the school summer holiday.

Coffee Mornings and Men’s Breakfast
Coffee mornings are held in the village hall, Great Staughton once a month from 10.30am to 12.00pm on the second Tuesday of the month and a Men’s Breakfast at St. Andrew’s every fourth Tuesday from 10.30am to 12.00pm.

St. Nicolas has a coffee morning at approximately 10.30am on the first Wednesday of the month, following Morning Prayer at 10.00am 

Bell Ring Practice
Bell ringing practice is on the first and third Monday evening at St. Andrews and Friday at All Saints. Both sessions run from 7.30pm to 9.00pm

Choir
We have a Choir in St Andrew’s Church which holds weekly practice sessions on Wednesday at 2.30pm.

Our Vicar: Currently Vacant while we await the appointment of a new Vicar to the Benefice

Assisted by two LLM’s (Licensed Lay Ministers) Glenn and Maggie Coiley.

ALMs; Elaine McCarthy, Tracy Beard and Jackie Manderson 

We are represented at the Deanery Synod by Mrs Janet Perrett and John Hitchin.

Children’s Activities over the benefice are coordinated by a team led Glenn and Maggie Coiley and their puppets, Tracy Beard ALM and Jackie Manderson baptism minister and other members of the 3 parishes.
